However in New Zealand, emphasis on the individual school as the administrative unit which drives improvement has not been met with the systemic support needed for ongoing leadership development. School principals are our lead learners and are not only critical for the success of our young people, they are also accountable for executing all aspects of a well-functioning organisation.

In 2007, Springboard Trust asked principals in South Auckland what business leaders could do to support schools in low-income areas to achieve better outcomes for students. Working with principals to deepen their understanding and use of strategic planning came to the fore. Starting with one cohort of six South Auckland principals, the Strategic Leadership for Principals Programme (SLPP) was born.

Today, Springboard Trust is privileged to work with over 300 principals in seven regions through our Strategic Leadership for Principals Programme and Alumni Services programmes, impacting more than 90,000 students.
